1. Overview

NYacad Symbols is a collection of VBA applications for adding standard symbols in any drawing. The program gives at your disposal the convenient way of setting up scale of blocks and selecting type of block. All modules of the program can be reached from the main form. Blocks used in this program are separated in two main categories: with text size of attributes 1/8” (0.125) and 3/32” (0.100). You can customize blocks to make them valid for a new client. Main features of the program:

2. Installation and Setup

After auto installation procedure you’ll find the new folder on your workstation:

C:\NYacad Symbols

Start AutoCAD and configure your support path information to include the directory C:\NYacad Symbols.

To do this type at the command prompt: preferences. Then in “Options” dialog window press tab “Files”,

select “Support File Search Path”, press button “Add…”, then “Browse…” and select folder C:\NYacad Symbols

Next include files NYacad Symbols.lsp and NYS-01.dvb (found under C:\NYacad Symbols directory) in ACAD Startup Suite. To do it:

·         Type "appload" at the command prompt

·         Press button “Contents…”

·         Click on “Add…” button and browse to find files.

3. Start application

To start application type NYS at the command prompt. Main form pops up.

From this form you can access any module of this program.

4. Using application

      4.1 Titles

Type T4 at the command prompt (or click on button Titles (T4) in main form).

Select client and scale. Enter values of attributes in fields ‘1st Line’ and ‘2nd line’. Click on any option button ‘Title 1…4’. After that press button  to insert block in AutoCAD. To go back to main form click on  button.

Remarks:

·         The values of attributes you entered will be stored and next time you open this form they will be used as default values

·         You can insert scale block as itself by selecting ‘Title 3’ option and leaving ‘1st Line’ and ‘2nd line’ blank

·         The length of polyline in ‘Title 1’and ‘Title 3’ can be changed by applying ‘stretch’ command or by using grips

·         There is no need to add ‘%%U’ in ‘Title 2’and ‘Title 4’ blocks, the program will add this underline combination of symbols automatically

      4.2 Bubbles

Type U4 at the command prompt (or click on button Bubbles (U4) in main form).

Select client and scale. Enter values of attributes. If you need to add the bubble with leader, then check ‘Add leader?’ check box. After that press the corresponding button  to insert block in AutoCAD. On the right part of this form you can see the grid lines bubbles. Select appropriate combination of check boxes to insert 1, 2, 3 or 4 bubbles simultaneously to mark up a grid line on your drawing or to show intersection of grid lines (see the drawing C:\NYacad Symbols\Examples.dwg)

Remarks:

·         Blocks with leaders designed using advanced technique: bubbles are attached to the leaders. Click on bubble to select it, then move or mirror: the leader will follow the block. Or you can use grip (insertion point of block: end of horizontal line joining block and leader) for modifying blocks.

·         The values of attributes you entered will be stored and next time you open this form they will be used as default values

4.3 Marks

Type BM at the command prompt (or click on button Marks (BM) in main form).

Select client and scale. Enter values of attributes and press the corresponding button to insert block. Besides Marks, with this form you can add in drawing channels (C and MC), pipes standard or with user dimensions, elbows, rectangles, tubes and openings.

4.4 Section Marks

Click an appropriate button in main form or type at the command prompt S1 or S2 or S3 or S4.

In activated form fill out fields: “Section Mark” and “Sheet No”:

Select client and scale.

Next:

A. If you need to insert section mark as shown on buttons (“No rotation” option)

Press any button to insert section mark in drawing. First Section Mark symbol will be inserted.

Then you need to locate Leg or Second Arrow (for S3 and S4 types) along red Ray (see picture below)

B. If you need to insert rotated section mark (“With rotation” option)

First define section line rotation. To do it press button “Define Sec. Line Angle” and pick two points on the screen.

The program will select an appropriate set of buttons. Click on any button, select Section Mark insertion point and locate section leg (arrow). If you know section line angle you can type degrees in boxes “Angle (X base)” (for section marks with rotation 0…(+/-) 45 degree from horizontal axis) or “Angle (Y base)” (for section marks with rotation

0…(+/-) 45 degree from vertical axis). On pressing option button “No Rotation” or button “Show all buttons” all buttons will appear on the form. You can get the information about section marks already inserted in the drawing: click on button “Update List”.

5. Blocks’ Customization

All blocks used in this program are customizable. Two layers were used for designing of blocks:

ANNO-SYMB-TXT - attributes and text entities)

ANNO-SYMB - other objects (lines, circles etc.) When you insert block, it will be placed on this layer.

Layer DETAIL is used for creating the area (rectangle, rounded rectangle or circle), when you add detail (see ‘Bubbles’ form).

You can change color and linetype of these layers. Open file

C:\NYacad Symbols\Clients\Client A (text=3_32)\Template.dwg,

if your current client’s standard text height is 3/32” or file

C:\NYacad Symbols\Clients\Client B (text=1_8)\Template.dwg,

if your current client’s standard text height is 1/8”.

Open Layer manager (see picture below):

Change colors of layers and save the drawing. When you start the new drawing you’ll get blocks with specified colors.

You can create a set of blocks for new client. Copy folder

C:\NYacad Symbols\Clients\Client A (text=3_32)

if your new client’s text height requirement is 3/32”

or

C:\NYacad Symbols\Clients\Client B (text=1_8)

if your new client’s text height requirement is 1/8”.

Rename new folder, make appropriate changes in drawing Template.dwg

Next time you start any form of this program the name of new client will appear in combo box “Client

If you decide to use blocks from folders provided with this program and you need to use different names of clients, then open Windows Explorer and change the name of folder(s). Next open file

C:\NYacad Symbols\TextFiles\ CurrentClient.txt

and enter here the new name of folder.

You can change the geometry of blocks (sizes of circles, text font and style etc.)

DO NOT change location of the blocks, names of attributes, names of files, thickness of polylines and names of layers.
